An open level class focused on Hip Hop foundation and applying it to learning choreography. 

Divya Raj is an NYC-based dancer and teacher. Her dance background spans over many different styles, but her personal movement expression often stems from Hip Hop and other Afro-diasporic genres. Her classes focus on applying foundational knowledge to choreography, teaching students how to become independent learners and take their dancing to the next level. She’s excited to teach in the DMV for the first time and meet everyone!

This class will be semiclassical with a foundation in Bharatanatyam and heavy filmy Bollywood influence. It is a foundational class, so no prior knowledge of the form is necessary. Foundations and technique in semiclassical which is derived from Bharatnatyam and kathak will be reviewed after which a 45-second excerpt of choreography will be taught.

Are you interested in learning bhangra but not sure where to begin? Want to be able to dance at weddings and parties with ease? This workshop is for you! It is a safe space for true beginners to learn the basics of bhangra in a safe and stress-free environment. It can be daunting to go into a bhangra workshop and be expected to learn choreo right off the bat. With this workshop, we hope to help you gain more confidence, so we will focus on form, safety, weight transfer, and common steps that will lay a foundation for you in your bhangra journey. Indian Classical Fusion & Hip Hop w/ Chitra

Indian Classical dance (Bharatanatyam) and Hip Hop culture are the foundation of Chitra's technique and movement languages.  Open to all levels and experiences, Chitra's classes are dynamic, relational, and high energy - offering footwork rhythms, bounces & grooves, and full-body movements that encourage release and an organic connection to the music.  

Class components typically include an in-depth warm-up with special attention on cultivating expressive energy with the arms, hands, and feet; improvisation and concept explorations; and oftentimes demonstration through choreography.  Chitra's aim is to make class a unique community experience, where she shares and learns from the community to help build, refine, and deepen her artistic process.

Desi Fusion w/ Vishwadha Gunda

Experience a class that introduces light fundamentals of various styles that Vishwadha has trained in over the course of her dance profession and a fun, hype dance combo that connects it all together by the end of clas. Our classes start with a warm up of dynamic stretches to connect the body and movement as one. Then, we enter into some fundamentals and combo building to finish class with a 30 - 45 second routine. Class will move at the dancer’s pace and focus on community building through a number of “ group exercises” throughout class!

Bhangra Workshop w/ Tithi Raval

This workshop is part of Tithi's Summer 2024 Tour, which includes 9 cities across the US and Canada. This workshop will center on an intermediate-level choreography, but Tithi will also explain the fundamentals of Bhangra and provide beginner-friendly modifications throughout class, so it's open to all levels! Requirements:

• Attend at least one of the concept video series class

• Fill out google form that will be sent after your class

• Submit audition video by due date with July availability

Join this unique opportunity to have a structured, holistic, and introspective learning experience with Ishita. This intensive will allow for sequential development and monitored growth through personalized feedback and repetition. If you are looking to be able to track your growth, connect your body to your emotions, and want more detailed feedback/advice to get towards your dance goals, this intensive is for you. The foundation and performance combination will use movement vocabulary from Mayurbhanj Chhau, House, Hip Hop, and Bharatanatyam while applying larger intuitive lessons from nature. Due to high demand and request, we are offering a spectator booking option for Harini’s Desi Fusion class on Thursday, May 23. Spectators would sit and observe on the benches in the studio or on the sides in front of the mirrors.
