Introduction to Bhangra w/ Radhika Gore

ABOUT RADHIKA: Radhika Gore (she/her) is a musician, dancer, and educator based in the DMV. She completed her undergraduate degree in Music Education from the University of Miami and taught music in Fairfax County Public Schools. She is a Hindustani vocal student and sings for Kathak Rangmanch performances and offers private vocal coaching. Radhika has been learning Kuchipudi from Smt. Lakshmi Babu of Kuchipudi Dance Academy for the last 20 years and completed her solo debut performance in June 2016. In college, Radhika co-founded Umiami Abhinaya, the first Indian Classical dance troupe, danced with Umiami Oleku (afrobeats dance team) and began her Bhangra journey. Over the years, Radhika has danced with Hurricane Bhangra, Florida Bhangra Crew, and most recently Sherniyan di Sarkar at Raniyaan di Raunaq, the first all-female bhangra competition. Now, she enjoys teaching semi-classical and bhangra workshops.

HER CLASS AT THE VICINITY: Are you interested in learning bhangra but not sure where to begin? Want to be able to dance at weddings and parties with ease? This workshop is for you! It is a safe space for true beginners to learn the basics of bhangra in a safe and stress-free environment. It can be daunting to go into a bhangra workshop and be expected to learn choreo right off the bat. With this workshop, we hope to help you gain more confidence, so we will focus on form, safety, weight transfer, and common steps that will lay a foundation for you in your bhangra journey. Depending on time, we will learn some combos that can be used out in the wild!
