Join us for a class blending Afro dance and Bhangra dance techniques!

Swathi Jaisankar will be teaching a Semi-Classical Bollywood class open to all ages and levels. This workshop will seamlessly combine the foundational elements of Classical and Folk art forms with the vibrant energy of Bollywood music!

Kuthu is a style very close to our heart and we'll be showing a different side of kuthu! Most of the style seen in major media is high energy, fast paced, and celebratory. In this class, we'll take a look at the expression of grief through dance. With this new lens, we'll focus on the nuances of kuthu movement and its cultural context.

This class will be focused on blending the movements and flow of Bhangra, with the bounce and groove of Hip-Hop. We will start class by covering some traditional Bhangra moves, Hip-Hop social dances, and a few polyrhythmic exercises. Leading us up to learning a fast tempo choreography to conclude!

This class will be focused on listening and interpreting music, textures, keeping the groove going (staying in the pocket), weight changes, and most importantly, having a good time! We will start with a short warm up of a foundational dance style and learn a combination. I’m excited to dance with you all! All levels welcome! See you all soon! :)

Indian Classical dance (Bharatanatyam) and Hip-Hop culture are the foundation of Chitra's technique and movement languages. Open to all levels and experiences, Chitra's classes are dynamic, relational, and high energy - offering footwork rhythms, bounces & grooves, and fully-body movements that encourage release and an organic connection to the music.

Class components typically include an in-depth warm-up with special attention on cultivating expressive energy with the arms, hands, and feet; improvisation and concept explorations; and oftentimes demonstration through choreography. Chitra's aim is to make class a unique community experience, where she shares and learns from the community to help build, refine, and deepen her artistic process.
